Our Story
Where it all began…
ScreenPop was founded by identical twins, Penny Clemmow and Katherine Pop, in response to the Covid pandemic in 2020. Katherine already ran her own networking business, Pop Connect, while Penny was a reluctant networker, running a successful business publishing local magazines. When restrictions made in-person networking impossible, the two of them saw the potential for online networking and set up a new business.
It was a difficult time for a lot of businesses, and ScreenPop quickly became a lifeline for business owners, expanding quickly to 34 thriving online groups at its height. However, as the world began to open up again, Penny and Katherine recognised that there was a fresh appetite for in-person networking, and launched their first ScreenPop Meets group in person in 2022. Meets has since expanded to encompass almost 40 groups across Yorkshire and the East Midlands, while we reduced the online side of the business to a single open meeting online each month, to reflect current appetites.
Katherine has since left the business to focus on franchising Pop Connect, but Penny is still at the helm and can be seen attending most groups, on occasion!
Penny’s Story
Penny was born in Essex and grew up in Hertfordshire. She moved to the East Midlands at 18 to study pharmacy at Nottingham University and has stayed in the area ever since. After working as a pharmacist for many years, she decided to found her own business, publishing local magazines.
Over 20 years later, Life Magazines is still going strong, with Penny’s husband, Howard, joining her as co-director not long after the business launched. Penny has since trained as a business and sales strategist, where she uses her own experiences as a business owner in a noisy marketplace to help other entrepreneurs not only to survive but to thrive in a whole host of industries.
She continues to work closely with Katherine as co-director of Pop Clemmow Enterprises Limited, offering training, consultancy and workshops.
When she is (rarely!) able to get away from work, Penny enjoys spending time with her two lovely grown-up daughters, as well as her two gorgeous (but sometimes challenging!) dogs.
